YallaTongues: languages and writing systems

YallaTongues is a language-learning app from NorthAfricanLinguistics. Explore language lessons, historical and modern writing systems, and searchable dictionaries. The public learning library provides course introductions, examples and lesson outlines that you can read without signing in.

Language courses connect words and phrases with their meanings. Writing system courses focus on recognizing and practicing written forms, with supplied readings and reference images where available. Browse Amharic foundations, explore the Syriac writing system, or meet the vertical forms of Mongolian writing.

In the interactive app, you can make your own two-column study sets or import existing materials. Study with spaced repetition, tracing, matching and quizzes, and use supported audio for listening practice. You choose which material to review and can continue studying beyond your daily goals.

Your private library saves on your device. Google sign-in supports an account for public contributions, and optional Google Drive storage lets you keep your own library copies and synchronize authorized devices. Public course introductions remain available without a Google account.
